Course description

This Certificate of Attainment (RSA) course is fully approved by Liquor & Gaming NSW and, after proving your identity, you can complete your study online in one day from home.

To work in a licensed venue (a place where alcohol is served) you must have a valid RSA Certificate with you while working and be over 18 years old. Each state and territory has different requirements for RSA training. This course is valid for NSW.

You must renew your training by completing an approved course every 5 years to keep current.

The RSA course focuses on understanding your legal obligations when serving alcohol, strategies to ensure customers drink responsibly and covers reducing harm to self and others.

Your course fee includes the cost of a Photo competency card.

Requirements
  • This course is fully online so you need an up-to-date computer connected to the internet and be able to confidently navigate the course - downloading and uploading files. You will also need to be able to access and use a digital recording device, such as a camera or smart phone, to verify your identity and do one of the assessment events. In addition, you require a web browser other than Internet Explorer, as the Liquor & Gaming NSW training materials are not compatible with this browser. Chrome, Firefox or Opera are suitable.
  • As you will not be able to get work in this industry until you turn 18, the minimum age for doing this course is 18 years.
  • Before gaining entry to this course, you will need a Unique Student Identifier (USI). Get more information by visiting http://usi.gov.au. You will need to have proof of your identity to complete the process.

How will I study this course online?
  • The course content material is supplied online under four topics
  • OLGR require a 30 minute delay between starting a topic and commencing the next topic
  • With each topic there is a check your progress quiz to reinforce your learning
  • You must score 100% on each quiz before you can move to the next topic
  • There are three assessment events:
    • online quiz (automatically marked)
    • short answer questionnaire
    • video presentation
  • Assessments are uploaded onsite including a short video showing a picture of yourself to prove your identity
  • The assessments will be marked by an online assessor
  • We have a 3-5 working day turnaround on marking assessments, however, this is generally quicker
  • Your details will be entered into the OLGR database as evidence of successful course completion
Can I use my RSA Certificate from another state?
No. Each state and territory has different requirements for RSA training. There is not one course to suit all areas of Australia.
How will I get my Photo competency card after I finish my online study?
  • An interim certificate will be emailed by TAFEnow to you after you have achieved competence in your course
  • Go to a participating Service NSW Service Centre to apply for a photo competency card
  • Take your 100 points of identification and your interim certificate to the Service Centre
  • You must attend the interview in person
  • Your photo will be taken at the Service Centre as part of the application process
How long is my Photo Competency Card valid?
Your certificate will expire after 5 years and RSA training must be renewed by completing an approved course to keep it current. If courses are completed within the 5 years, the competency class can be added to the card and the card can be reissued, but the expiry date will remain the same.
What job roles need RSA Certification?
Any job that sells, supplies or serves alcohol on a licensed premises including:
  • Casuals
  • Volunteers
  • Licensee
  • Secretary of a registered club
  • Staff who sell, supply, or serve alcohol on the licensed premises
  • Staff who perform crowd control or bouncer activities
  • RSA marshals, if they are required in the venue by law or licence condition.
What if I don’t complete my study within 1 day?
If you are unable to complete the study and assessments in 1 day, your course access will be available for up to 6 weeks
